HiMSS (the Health Information Management Systems Society) has for the last three years (at least to my knowledge) made a substantial commitment to social media. With the co-location of the ‘social media center’ (SMC) adjacent to ‘HiMSS Central’ at HiMSS13 and ably anchored by Cari McClean, Ward Seward and Michaeal Gaspar the showcase has assembled assets both programming and faculty to model best practices and feature thought leaders in the space.

HITsm Tweetchat Live from HiMSS13This year SMC featured a live version of what has become a go to tweetchat in the space known as ‘#HITsm’ or in long hand as the ‘health information technology social media’ tweetchat typically hosted each Friday from 12 Noon Eastern to 1PM Eastern by Corepoint Health’s Chad Johnson aka @ochotex and Jon Mertz aka @jonmertz. Meanwhile the crew including Nate DiNiro (@unclenate) and Gregg Masters (@2healthguru) captured the action in real time streaming directly from the venue. Gregg was also one of the moderators supplying a topic for discussion on accountable care and the role of social media to enable the development of ACOs.
