Posted on March 17, 2013 by in Health IT, HIBC.tv, HIMSS13, News, Patient Empowerment, Patient Engagement, Regina Holliday

Very busy (as usual) at the Patient Engagement Forum at HiMSS13 we succeeded in yanking Regina Holliday (@ReginaHolliday) aside for a moment to chat about the event, what’s she’s up to and what is in store for the amazing woman warrior in the patient empowerment camp!

The session summary is described by HiMSS staff as follows:

HIMSS eConnecting with Consumers Committee  (eCC) will host its first Patient Experience through Health IT Forum as part of its annual conference education program.  The program is embedded into the HIMSS13 education programming and provides a focus for providers and attendees on how to use health IT technologies to engage patients in their healthcare and wellness.

The program provided three sessions addressing topics such as:

  • How to make Patients Your Partners in Satisfying Meaningful Use Stage 2 Objectives; Case Studies in Patient Engagement;
  • Review Business Cases for Implementing a Patient-Centered Communication Strategy and Building Patient 2.0: and
  • Engaging People in Health Through Consumer-Facing Devices and Tools.

Perhaps the best context for this patient focused session is framed by a recent report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) which highlights, findings and lessons from the experiences of grantees funded by the Enabling Patient-Centered Care through Health IT (PCC) Initiative is detailed here.
